My excuse not to contribute to the boss’ present was I just bought a house so I told them I was really strapped for cash. Worked better than “I hate my boss” but I still was forced into charity 5k giving for a colleague.

My husband and I worked together at our old job. Whenever anyone would ask us to go in on a gift or contribute to anything he would tell them to ask me. I would say no, of course, and look bad. My husband just blamed it all on me! =/
