According to Sports Illustrated (and just about everyone else….) this guy is suing Major League Baseball, the New York Yankees and ESPN for $10 million dollars because broadcasters poked fun at him during the game.
Here’s exactly what they said.
Really?
Has personal accountability sunk this low?
You fell asleep at a major league baseball game while sitting right behind home plate. You don’t think it’s okay for the broadcasters to have a little fun with you?
Here’s his accusation:
“Announcers like Dan Shulman and John Kruck [sic] unleashed avalanche of disparaging words against the person of and concerning the plaintiff. These words, include but not limited to ‘stupor, fatty, unintelligent, stupid’ knowing and intending the same to be heard and listened to by millions of people all over the world.”
(Watch the clip above, listen to Shulman and Kruk, and then tell me what planet this dude’s living on…..)
Today’s lesson?
The best things we can do in life:
- Quit blaming everyone else for our problems.
- Create something positive.
Oh yeah….and grow a sense of humor. Crap happens. You fell asleep. Get over it.

Seriously? Duhhhh, does that guy don’t have any idea what is a sense of humor? That’s too bad for him, I think it’s not a big deal after all, the announcers didn’t use foul words anyway.

Insert eye roll. Pu-lease!!! I think one thing when I hear this kind of story, victim. Im guessing a lot more than this has “happened” to this person in life and that’s why he’s got such a poopy diaper about life. If it were me, I’d be embarrassed, sure, but you have to learn to laugh at yourself just a little.
Liz
Yeah that whole thing was pretty hilarious. I guess this guy figures he has a shot at getting some sort of settlement : )

As a blogger, my takeaway is, “Be careful what you say…”

Haha, I read about this. I’m not sure John Kruk should be making fun of anybody and they were pretty classless for insulting a fan…but a lawsuit, really!! How frivolous and a waste of money. I agree with Liz…when big money corporation is involved…there’s always a chance of a settlement.

Dang. That’s pretty funny!

Get over it, fattie! I swear, if some people had their way then no one would be allowed to say anything.
Laurie @thefrugalfarmer
Yep, this is the type of lack of personal responsibility that has sunk our country into the mess it’s in today. Just gotta shake your head, you know??
Stefanie @ brokeandbeau
NOW people will certainly have some nasty opinions about this guy and rightly so.

There weren’t any of those words used in the clip above, right? Maybe there was after it happened. I agree that you’re opening yourself up when you fall asleep behind home ( please give me your seats!) but if those words were used in other outlets I do think that’s kind of awful. What does his sleeping have to do with his intelligence? And why is it okay to rip on weight in this culture when we know it’s an epidemic health problem? Yeah, personal responsibility falls into that, too, but you have no idea what this guy’s personal struggles are. Personal responsibility for falling asleep behind home, sure. But using those cutting words on a normal guy in the mass media? I’m willing to bet we’d all feel a little different if this were a family member of ours.
If those words were even used. Like I said, I didn’t hear them.

I was really hoping this would be a step-by-step guide on how to sue someone for making fun of you. A coworker laughed at me for tripping the other day and I really would like to have all of her money now. I mean, I’ll do anything for money as long as I don’t have to work for it. Seriously though…..the problem is that these types of ridiculous lawsuits are allowed in the first place.

Frivolous law suites are an open door more legation’s; that’s when someone like this finds out that he had no damages in the first place, but now the corporations he filed against are going settle by promising not to sue him, once the stink clears…
Funny how some people are always looking to blame someone else for all there own problems and who would have guessed this guy was a money troll.
Natalie @ Financegirl
Wow, this is so crazy! I cannot understand how you could sue someone for this. Sure, your feelings might be hurt, but suing?! I think you got it right when you said this is blaming someone else. You’re not entitled to compensation for feeling bad. I doubt there is any real harm / pain and suffering either.
